Consumers Energy awards Huhtamaki Inc. in Coleman as part of $11.3 million incentive program

COLEMAN — In an effort to make thousands of commercial and industrial customers more energy efficient, Consumers Energy awarded $11.3 million in incentives last year.

The lone Midland County recipient was Huhtamaki, Inc. in Coleman. The plastics manufacturer received $83,280 for lighting upgrades and vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) retrofits. It is estimated to save the company 1.3 million kWh annually.

, $25,000 went to Michigan Sugar Co. in Monitor Township.

“We’ve seen an enthusiastic response from our commercial and industrial customers to our energy efficiency incentives through our Business Solutions program,” said David Johnson, director of business customer management at Consumers Energy.

Statewide, the projects save participating customers an estimated $15.4 million per year in energy costs annually, according to a report. In addition, they save an estimated 124.7 million kWh of electricity and more than 322,000 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) of natural gas annually.
