SCT Spreads the Word on Safety

Monday, May 2, 2016
In April 2016, the Joint MSUWC and Consumers Energy Safety Culture Team (SCT) attended a presentation at the iP Utility Safety Conference & Expo (USC&E), which brought together leading safety and operations minds from across the country for three days of education and networking.  The USC&E is an event tailor-made for utility safety and operations professionals who take safety seriously. The event draws employees from electric and gas utilities, communications and cable providers, municipalities and contractor who serve these businesses, including:

+ Safety Managers
+ Safety Personnel
+ Supervisors
+ Foreman
+ Trainers
+ Aspiring Safety Leaders

Educational sessions were presented by the industry’s best and brightest, and that's where the SCT comes in.  The SCT shared their experiences through a presentation titled "Normalization of Deviation, Situational Awareness, and Expanded Tailboard Imaging".  The SCT presentation was standing room only with over 100 attendees.  The Team started the session with a safety tailboard and a round of stretching, which attendees participated in fully and enthusiastically.

Throughout the presentation the SCT was very energetic and did a great job of engaging the attendees.  The presentation was a great success with an extensive period of Q&A's and the sharing of Best Practices.  Following the presentation, many attendees stayed to visit with the members of the SCT and discuss how the Union and Consumers Energy established such a successful partnership on safety.

Congratulations and thanks to all members of the SCT on a great presentation and their leadership.
