At its January 2017 delegate meeting the Michigan State Utility Workers Council announced its endorsement of Gretchen Whitmer for Governor of the State of Michigan.  The one hundred and twenty delegates and members in attendance were surprised on Saturday morning when President Patrick Dillon introduced Gretchen Whitmer.

After a very well received 2015 workshop, two MSUWC members, Mellisa Bateman, Local 107 Steward, and Brooke Lauber, Local 129 Financial Secretary, were asked, once again, to facilitate the Clerical Workshop at the 2016 Inter-Union Gas Conference.

At a Michigan State Utility Workers Council Meeting held on May 7, 2016, five blind drawings were conducted for the 2016 Marshall M. Hicks Scholarships.

On April 20, 2016, over 30 attendees from the UWUA and Consumers Energy joined the P4A staff in honoring 37 veterans and active duty National Guardsmen who are students in the P4A's Veteran Gas Bootcamp. 

In April 2016, the Joint MSUWC and Consumers Energy Safety Culture Team (SCT) attended a presentation at the iP Utility Safety Conference & Expo (USC&E), which brought together leading safety and operations minds from across the country for three days of education and networking. 

The UWUA Power for America announces a new Union Military Assistance Program for Michigan.  The program, aimed at Michigan National Guardsmen and US military vterans, includes a 4-week gas boot camp followed by a 3-month paid internship with Consumers Energy with the aim at future employment with the utility.
